I-GUIDE Summer School
Selected Follow, UCAR, NSF and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, IL | July 2026
In July 2026, I participated in the I-GUIDE Summer School at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign as an I-GUIDE Fellow. I contributed to the collaborative GeoAI project, Engineers from Space: A GeoAI Approach to Mapping Beaver Wetlands, which explored the use of remote-sensing imagery and machine-learning workflows to identify beaver dams and associated wetlands. My work focused on image preprocessing, collaborative coding, GeoAI model integration, workflow development, and model evaluation. The experience strengthened my ability to work across disciplines and develop reproducible geospatial workflows for complex environmental applications.
Selected Follow, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) and NASA, Woods Hole, MA | Summer 2026
Contributed as a WHOI/NASA Summer School in Sea Level Science Fellow to interdisciplinary learning and research activities focused on sea-level variability, sea-level rise, glacier and ice-sheet contributions to sea-level change, vertical land motion, Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC), and associated coastal impacts. I engaged in technical discussions, hands-on scientific training, data analysis, and collaborative activities integrating observations from SWOT, GRACE, and ICESat-2 with ocean and ice-sheet modeling and coastal-risk applications to support improved understanding of sea-level change and coastal decision-making.
Selected Participant, NSF, Portland State University, OR | August 2025
Contributed to an interdisciplinary working group focused on understanding how interacting weather and climate hazards can create compounding and cascading risks for U.S. infrastructure, security, and community resilience. The group developed a risk storyline/scenario exploring plausible cascading impacts across interconnected systems. I also served as the group note-taker and reporting contributor, documenting key discussions, synthesizing group outcomes, and supporting the final reporting process.
Selected Follow, CUAHSI,CIROH, NOAA,The University of Alabama, AL| Summer 2025
Contributed as a selected CUAHSI/NOAA Summer Institute Fellow to interdisciplinary research and training activities supported by CUAHSI, CIROH, NOAA, and The University of Alabama. I contributed to two collaborative projects, serving as team leader for one deep learning project and co-leader for another, while engaging in technical discussions, hands-on data analysis, applied modeling, and NOAA-relevant water prediction and coastal-risk research. These activities emphasized the integration of geospatial data, hydrologic and coastal information, and computational tools to improve flood-risk understanding and support community-scale water-resilience decision-making.

The 2024 GIS Program workshop was attended by 17 early career faculty and students who learned about Exploring Coastal Resilience and Flood Risk through Geospatial Storytelling held on Aug. 12-13, 2024 at NSF NCAR in Boulder, CO.
Science Communication and K–12 Outreach Contributor, Alabama Museum of Natural History, The University of Alabama | Spring 2024
My colleague, Michael Lewis, and I contributed to SciREN Alabama (Scientific Research and Education Network), a science communication and education outreach program that connects researchers with K–12 educators. Through this event, we shared our research on compound flooding and presented our plan to translate complex coastal flood-risk research into classroom-ready educational modules. We also presented the first version of our game-based learning activity, designed to help students explore compound flooding, coastal hazards, adaptation decisions, and community resilience through an interactive classroom experience.
